Osman Samin

Mr Osman Samin is an Accredited Criminal Law Specialist and the Principal Lawyer at Australian Criminal and Family Lawyers.

Mr Samin is a Law Society Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law. Appointment as an accredited specialist is recognition from the governing body that Mr Samin is an expert in the field of criminal law. Specialist accreditation is the highest form of recognition that a lawyer can receive with regards to their competence in a particular area of the law. It essentially offers the public a reliable means of identifying lawyers who have been assessed by their peers and the Law Society as having special competence in a particular are of the law.

Mr Samin graduated with a combined double degree in Bachelor of Business and Commerce/ Bachelor of Law and shortly after engaged in the only Masters of Criminal Law program headed by ex-Supreme Court Judge the Honourable Terry Buddin SC.

Mr Samin started his career working for some of the largest specialist criminal law firms in the State. Mr Samin was quickly promoted to the title of senior lawyer and was soon after promoted to managing senior lawyer.

Mr Samin has since practiced as a lawyer almost exclusively in criminal law and family law. Mr Samin has represented clients in all jurisdictions including The Local Court, The District Court, The Supreme Court of New South Wales, The NSW Court of Criminal Appeal, The Federal Circuit Court and The Family Court of Australia.

Mr Samin has appeared as an advocate in some notably large cases including terrorism, murder, large commercial drug supply, firearms offences, serious assaults and aggravated robberies.

He is one of only a handful of lawyers who appears in the Court of Criminal Appeal where his opponents are some of the most senior barristers in the State representing prosecuting authorities.

Most recently, Mr Samin appeared as an advocate in the Court of Criminal Appeal in the high profile terrorism case of R v Saadieh. Whereby Mr Samin was able to convince the Court to grant bail to an alleged ISIS member. The first decision of its kind in Australia.

Mr Samin is well recognised by lawyers, prosecutors, magistrates and judges as a fierce and confident advocate. He particularly enjoys complex arguments of law including questions on admissibility of evidence and notably impropriety of police conduct and investigation.
