Being arrested is a very traumatic and frightening experience. Unfortunately most people who are arrested do not know what their rights are, what they can do or who they can call for help and police often take advantage of this.
At Australian Criminal and Family Lawyers we have simplified this.
There are now only two things (or one word) that you need to remember if you are ever arrested or come into contact with the police:
1. You have the right to remain SILENT and you should maintain that right until you have spoken with a lawyer. (No matter how bad you want to tell your side of the story get legal advice before you make any comment, answer any question or participate in any sort of interview);
2. Call 1300SILENT immediately and we will have a lawyer available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to give you free emergency legal advice. We can also assist by calling your family to let them know where you are and most importantly we can arrange an immediate bail application to have you released.
SILENT- It is the one word that you need to remember for all your criminal law needs.
